A Club Member's Story

An extremely uncomfortable Mrs L contacted the Edgars Club helpline telling the nurse that she had been experiencing abdominal cramps, passing a lot of non-smelling gas and that she had been eating plenty of apples in the past few day leading up to her discomfort. The nurse on duty explained to Mrs L that the gas could have been caused by stress, swallowing air or the ingesting of foods such as vegetables, fruits and red meats, fried food and pastries. The nurse then advised Mrs L to try mild exercise, such as walking, or to sit in a bath filled with warm water, covering her abdominal area. Mrs L was also advised to drink 6-8 glasses of water per day and to avoid carbonated drinks and milk shakes, not to drink too much liquid during meal-times and to avoid overeating or eating too quickly.

When the nurse called her back to follow up on her progress, Mrs L said that she felt much better.
